Latest Updates and Advice on Energy Efficiency.

In 2006, Carrier welcomed the new increase in efficiency standards, from 10 to 13 SEER, and offers the most products to meet the new efficiency requirements. Manufacturers can only produce 13 SEER units, although local dealers may continue to sell existing inventory, install and service older units.

What Homeowners Should Know
  • Increased Cost Efficiency
  • 13 SEER represents a 30 percent increase over the old standard; approximately 50% of all energy used in a home is spent on heating and cooling. Upgrading to 13 SEER will deliver about 23 percent in energy savings
  • Improved Environment Conservation
  • It's estimated that by 2030, the change to 13 SEER will save greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to removing 3 million cars from our roadways.
  • Expanded Environmentally-sound Products
  • In 2010, the industry was required to shift to an R-410A refrigerant that eliminates ozon-depleting hydroflurocarbons. Puron® the environmentally-sound R-410A product by Carrier, has been available since 1996. Carrier offers the most extensive R-410 product line in the industry.

Defeat The Dog Days of Summer

With heat and humidity and rising energy costs, your utility bills could be even higher this year. Making your home "green" could leave more green in your pocket.

What exactly is a green home? A green home is good for you and for the environment. It uses less water and energy than the average home, recycles more waste and avoids the use of lawn and garden chemicals. It helps keep more dollars in your pocket.

According to the Leviton Institute, there are many ways you can make your home green. A good place to start thinking green is with electrical use. Here are a few simple steps you can take to make your home more energy smart:

  • Make sure your HVAC system is up to date and in top operating condition.
  • Replace frequently used incandescent bulbs with compact fluorescent lightbulbs.
  • Use Energy Star-qualified appliances.
  • Install motion sensors for outdoor floodlights and occupancy sensors for indoor lights.
  • Replace traditional light switches with modern dimmers that reduce costs.
  • Install digital timers which shut power off within a set range of timed intervals.
  • Plug home electronics into power strips and turn power strips off when equipment is not in use.
  • Use a programmable thermostat to adjust the setting warmer at night or when not at home.
  • Avoid locating lamps and TVs near your AC thermostat.
